For those on the Essex-Herts border, there are plenty of great attractions in both Essex and Hertfordshire this summer. Today we take a look across the border to see what’s hot in Hatfield this summer. Many of these events and attractions make a perfect staycation day for Essex and London holidaymakers too!
93% of Brits take at least one staycation holiday per year, according to Wonga. This amounts to around £13bn being spent holidaying in the UK. It is thought that the struggles of the pound against the Euro, coupled with the prohibitive costs of booking an overseas package trip during the summer holidays are largely responsible for us becoming a staycation nation. For others, it’s simply more convenient, particularly when you’ve got kids and the family dog to think about. If you’re lucky enough to be venturing to Hatfield this summer, here are some of the best local events to keep you entertained.
Nothing spells summer better than indulging in an outdoor screening of one of your favourite flicks. Sitting on a picnic blanket and sharing nibbles and drinks with friends and family in the warmth of summer is a truly romantic experience. The Luna Cinema is treating movie-lovers to a packed calendar this summer. From June 14-16th, screenings of Moulin Rouge, Pretty Woman and Darkest Hour are being shown. But from July 30th to August 4th the Luna Kids programme kicks off, showing the latest kids movies such as Paddington 2, Despicable Me 3 and Moana. The venue is located at Hatfield House, which is sure to be a winner with the entire family.
Hatfield House Battle Proms Concert
Another reason to come along to this Jacobean country mansion in 2018 is to attend the unforgettable Battle Proms picnic concert. Held on Saturday 14th July, you can begin the evening by watching a WWI cavalry display followed by a freefall demonstration performed by the Red Devils. The musical programme begins at 8.30pm with your favourite classical pieces promised including Tchaikovsky’s traditional 1812 overture, complete with 193 cannons, musket fire and fireworks. As the evening isn’t scheduled to finish until 10.30pm, it would be best to check into one of the local hotels in Hatfield for convenience and a luxury night’s stay.
Folk By The Oak
If you love music festivals but also want to be surrounded by history and nature, then Folk by the Oak is the ideal event for you. The festival hosts some of the most popular artists in the live folk and acoustic music scenes. Amy Macdonald, Billy Bragg, The Young’Uns and CC Smugglers will all be making appearances. This festival is particularly family-friendly – there’s no camping, so people just bring along their nearest and dearest for a full day of entertainment. There is even a dedicated family area set up for storytelling, circus acts and folk dancing. Folk by the Oak takes place on 15th July from midday to 10.30pm.
Classic Ibiza: Urban Soul Orchestra
Feeling nostalgic for the 90s? If you danced the decade away to the likes of Fatboy Slim, Faithless and Underworld then this alfresco celebration is the perfect event for you. The Urban Soul Orchestra brings these classic tunes back to life with the help of a rousing 32 -piece live orchestra and a laser show. All those happy memories will quickly come flooding back on September 1st.
The only drawback to staying in the UK for the summer is that things get booked up fast, so make sure you’re ahead of the crowds and grab tickets to these incredible Hatfield events asap.
