3 Ways to Cut Your Energy Bills

Save hundreds of pounds on your energy bills with our expert renewable energy essex tips. From choosing the best energy tariff to making your home more energy efficient, our advice will help you save money and make your home more comfortable.

Switch energy supplier

There’s so much you can do to reduce energy use at little or no cost.

Are you paying too much for your energy? Check with your supplier that you’re on the best tariff possible for your needs. If you haven’t switched energy suppliers in the last three years, then there’s a good chance you could save yourself some money by doing so. You can use a comparison website to check if your supplier is the most competitively priced compared to others.

You can also cut the cost of your energy by taking showers rather than baths. Showers use much less hot water and therefore less energy than baths, and reducing the time taken to shower by ten minutes could further reduce water heating costs by a good 25%.

Replace light bulbs

Energy-saving light bulbs can help you cut your energy bills easily. An LED light bulb for example costs around £1.71 to run per year. Over its lifetime, using LED lightbulbs could cut up to £180 from your energy bills, compared with an old-style bulb. Energy-saving light bulbs also last longer than traditional ones.

Home insulation

Did you know that insulating both your loft and cavity walls can save you up to £315 a year? Laying loft insulation to a thickness of 270mm in a typical non-insulated three-bedroom semi could also trim £175 a year from energy bills, as less heat will be lost through the roof.

Filling the cavity between double walled homes with foam or other materials, such as mineral wool, can cut down your heat energy escaping to the outside.
